In preclinical studies, when assessing the safety and pharmacological activity of drugs, as well as pharmaceutical substances, it is often necessary to test drugs for inhalation administration. Today, there is a fairly wide range of specialized equipment that allows this route of administration to be provided for both small and large laboratory animals. In most cases, inhalation units are expensive and large-sized.
As an alternative to large-sized inhalation exposure systems, in this research, we consider a compressor (jet) nebulizer designed for the timely treatment of bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and other diseases of the respiratory system. The operation of this type of nebulizer is based on the Bernoulli effect, which produces an aerosol with a fixed particle size. It also allows you to spray most substances with a complex chemical structure. The compressor nebulizer is used in experimental studies for the induction of pathologies such as asthma, as well as for the formation of anaphylactic shock using ovalbumin. In literary sources, there are various methodological approaches using a nebulizer. Inhalation administration to Wistar rats was carried out in two ways (in an inhalation chamber and in a mask) at different exposures (5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes). For inhalation, saline was used which was stained with Evans blue using the imaging penetration assessment. The experiment showed that inhalation, carried out by placing the animal in the inhalation chamber, did not lead to the ingress of the spray solution into the respiratory tract. In contrast, when inhaled in the mask, staining of the lungs was recorded, which indicates the penetration aerosol into the respiratory tract. Thus, the compressor nebulizer can be used for the use of various diseases, in cases where the exact dosage of the pathological inducer administered by inhalation is not required.
