No biological experiment is carried out without the participation of laboratory animals, while rats are most often used, which are a stable model that allows you to reproduce various pathological processes. For obtaining accurate data and their correct interpretation, it is important that the state of the experimental animals at the starting point of the experiment is as similar as possible. At the same time, the study of urine sediment is the easiest way to obtain information about the state of the organism. To diagnose a pathological process, it is necessary to compare results of examination with data characterizing the state of health within the same biological species. However, there is not enough scientific information about urine sediment in healthy rats, so, in many studies there is a tendency to compare the data obtained in an experiment with the participation of laboratory animals with data determined for a healthy human. The work presents the results of a study of urine sediment obtained from 100 clinically healthy Wistar rats (52 females and 48 males), aged 6–12 months, weighing 250–350 g. The urine sediment of the morning portion of the urine of animals, after centrifugation and preparation, was examined using a light microscope. All actions for the preparation of native samples were performed in accordance with a specific algorithm, under equal conditions. The elements of the sediment were assessed according to common criteria for their identification, the quantitative value of various elements of the urine sediment was determined, followed by the calculation of the reference intervals for each element.
